Putting the right comforter on your bed can make the whole bedroom look fabulous. Comforters are the most visible of all the bedding pieces, so when you change the comforter you make a large change in the decor of the bedroom itself. But comforters are also very functional as they make for a very warm, and soft bed to sleep in too. But getting the right comforter for your bed takes some thought and preparation, and this article will help you make the right decision when you buy.The first factor in choosing the right comforter is to make sure that it actually fits your bed. This may sound like a simple thing, but not all mattresses are the same size because of their design. If you have a very standard mattress it will most likely fit into one of the conventional categories like "Full", Queen", or "King".But many mattresses these days are not standard sizes because mattress makers have gone to adding more features like pillow tops on one side or sometimes both sides of the mattress. This means that the mattress is now much thicker than it would normally be. And that will also affect the size of any bedding that you are now able to put on that bed. That's why it's always a good idea to measure your bed and mattress to make sure that you know what size comforter to get beforehand and won't have to be faced with the prospect of having to return the bedding that you love when you find that it just doesn't look right on your bed. When considering a comforter look at the TPI or threads per inch too. This figure will often give you a good idea of the quality level that has been put into that comforter. Generally speaking thread counts above 250 produce a soft and comfortable feel and fabric that will last a long time. Try to avoid thread counts below 200.It's also not a bad idea to look for a comforter that has patterns on both sides. That way you can change the look of the bed from time to time and not just have the same pattern all the time.If you are in the market for a down comforter, the most expensive kinds will have pure white down in them, but actually a mixture of down and feathers will do the job nicely and is not as expensive. Just avoid so-called down comforters that have a really low ratio of down to feathers. The higher the down ratio in the comforter the more important that the cover be what is called "down proof" because down is so small and can actually work its way through a normal cover. Usually this designation is listed on the comforter package. Finally, be sure that a down comforter is stitched so that the insulation material cannot move about very freely or shift. If the stitching is not in place the down can shift so that some parts of the comforter do not even offer much insulation at all. This is widely known, and most down comforters will have necessary stitching in place on the quilt, but just make sure before you buy.Buying a good quality comforter is an investment in practicality and appearance at the same time. Use these guidelines for choosing your new comforter and you should be happy with it for years to come..

Space is at premium. Isn't it? ? A food for thought!A futon is popular in Japan because, even in homes, space is at a premium. This means that many rooms are used for different tasks, at different times of the day. So, in a two or three room Japanese home, the same space can be used as a sitting room in the daytime and a bedroom at night. How is this possible? Unlike the West, where beds are popular, the Japanese use a mattress and quilt, which they spread on the mats in the room. The mattress forms the bed, on which the sleeper lies, and the quilt is thrown over the sleeper. In the daytime, both the mattress and the quilt are rolled away, and the room is used as a sitting room or a dining room.In the West, futons have become popular as more and more people have moved out of houses and have started to live in two-room or single-room apartments instead. Furniture designers have created sofas, ottomans, and love seats that can be used for seating during the day and transformed into beds with a few discreet pulls and pushes at night. This is very useful for a single person or a young couple, who need to put up guests for the night, and do not have a spare bedroom. Both in Japan and in the West, futon is a useful, space-saving item of furniture. However, there is one difference between Western and Japanese design. Instead of performing different tasks in the same space, as the Japanese do, the Western designer gets the furniture to do the multitasking. Futon Covers USA provides wide range of covers, which you can use for sofas, chairs, ottomans, and love seats. We provide a wide range of covers in abstracts, animal prints, Asian and South West US designs, floral and retro prints, stripes and plaids, and solid colored covers. You name it and we have it. We can also provide covers with the leather or suede look, and theme prints of various kinds. Our covers can fit futons elegantly that are 6 inches to 10 inches in thickness. We at Futon Covers USA, supply you directly from US-based manufacturers, which make us the lowest priced futon covers seller, whether you buy from us online or from our stores. If you live in the continental United States and place an order with us, you will receive your order within 10 days, and moreover will not have to pay any shipping charge. If unsatisfied with your purchase, return the purchase within 14 days of receipt and get a full refund. If your cover should be defective, you return it to us within a year of its purchase - you will be given a full refund. Whether joint or nuclear families, if you have a futon at home & are looking for a colorful and stylish cover, why not check us out at Futon Cover USA?.

A bedroom is more than just a place to sleep. It is an escape from our hectic everyday lives. Not only should one's bedroom be a refuge, but it should also be a sanctuary. Creating such a place isn't as difficult as it may seem. Although there are many decorating and design aspects involved, placing particular emphasis on your bedroom will improve every aspect of your life. You'll be able to relax much more quickly at the end of the day, and getting up in the morning won't be quite as much of a chore.

If you are lucky enough to begin with an empty bedroom, carefully consider the look you would like to achieve. As was stated earlier, you want to create a space you feel comfortable in, but what exactly does comfortable mean for you? Some people feel most relaxed in a bedroom with soft tones and large furniture and accessories. Perhaps you long for a huge four-poster bed covered in an array of fluffy pillows. Similarly, others feel more at ease in a brightly colored room designed with simple lines. There is not right or wrong answer when it comes to personal taste. If you have a significant other it is very important to consider his or her needs as well. After all, this bedroom will be their refuge as well.

Once you've figured out what color-scheme and feel you are going for, it's time to translate that into furniture and accessories. Although it's not a decorative piece, one's mattress cannot be underestimated. Nothing affects one's sleep the way a mattress does. If you do not get good nights sleep, you will not be able to function properly the next day. This will affect both your mood and your productivity. Studies have even shown that not having enough sleep impacts the length of one's life. For this reason, it is paramount to buy a quality mattress. Your new mattress should be comfortable, but not too soft. It should have high-quality springs and thick padding throughout.

Another thing to carefully consider is your bedroom furniture. There are a ton of choices available. It doesn't matter if you seek the comforting tone of traditional cherry wood, or if you seek the simple styling of black metal. Anything you choose must be a reflection of your personal style and be functional as well. Be sure that your bedroom furniture allows for the appropriate amount of storage for clothing, bedding and other things such as books and decorative items. This storage should hide enough of your essentials so that the room looks and feels uncluttered. You can even use the space underneath your bed for extra room.

No matter what furniture, paint or flooring you may choose for your bedroom, be sure that it all creates a certain flow. The trick to creating a calming space is to make sure that everything works well together. No one piece should outshine the other. For instance, your walls shouldn't be so bold that they take a person's attention away from the rest of the room. In the end, however, anything you choose should be a strong reflection of what you (and your spouse) likes and enjoys. A bedroom is the place where you dream, so why wouldn't you make it as dream-worthy as possible

What You'll Need	Tape Measure	Paper for Pattern	Plywood, Saw, and Sandpaper	Upholstery foam and Batting	Muslin or sheeting	Decorative Fabric	Electric Drill, screws, and staple gun	Cording, braid or other trim (if desired)	Method 1. Measure Your BedDecide how tall and wide to make your headboard. Headboards are either equal to, or slightly wider than the width of the mattress. 8 inches of the headboard should be visible, when the pillows are leaning against it.2. Create A StencilUsing paper create a stencil of the shape you want for your headboard. Rounded corners are great for a softer look.3. Cut the Headboard ShapeLay the paper stencil you just created onto the wood. Trace around your stencil on the wood. Using a power saw, cut the headboard shape.4. Sand the HeadboardUsing a medium-grit sandpaper, lightly sand around the edges of the headboard.5. Prepare the FoamCut a sheet of upholsttery foam to the size of teh wood frame plus 1 inch. Lay the foam over the frame and staple in three or four places, then secure with spray adhesive.6. Upholstery BattingCover the layer of foam with a sheet of upholstery batting, cut 2 to 4 inches larger than the size of wood. Using your staple gun, tack the batting to the back of the frame, making sure that the top and side edges are smooth and even.7. Attach the SheetingCut a piece of plain white sheeting 4 to 6 inches larger than the headboard shape. Staple the sheeting to the back of the wood, making sure all corners are even.8. Decorative FabricIron your outer layer of decorative fabric and smooth it face-down on the work area. Place the covered headboard face down on top of it. Cut the fabric the same size and shape, adding about 4 inches extra to wrap around the back of the headboard.9. Staple the TopStarting at the center top, begin stapling the fabric to the back, making sure that any pattern on the fabric is properly centered and straight. Pull it just enough to get a smooth front side, but not so much that it puckers.10. Staple the Bottom Once you have about 12 inches of the top stapled, switch to the bottom edge. Smooth the fabric around the wood and staple several places on the bottom edge. Continue working in sections along the top and bottom. 11. Staple the SidesIf everything looks good, set it down and begin to secure the fabric to the sides, folding over the outer sides and staple the fabric to the back. Make sure the corners (if you have any) look neat and tidy from the front.12. Linen BackingIf desired, staple a plain lining fabric onto the back of the headboard, covering all the raw edges of fabric, batting and foam.13. Attach the LegsNow is the time to attach legs to the headboard if necessary. Set the headboard in place. You may wish to stand the headboard against the wall behind the bed, using the mattress to stabilize it. You can also drill holes in the legs and attach them to the frame of the bed. Or you can attach the headboard directly to the wall behind..

If you don't get the assistance that you want, go elsewhere.Don't be strange bedfellows. If the beds for two, make sure your partner goes with you.Take the time to test the mattresses out.
With over 2,000 franchise opportunities available in more than 75 industries, deciding which opportunity is right for you can be a daunting task. Verlo Mattress Factory Stores offers the only franchise opportunity in the $7.7 billion-a-year sleep specialty industry. With its low entry cost and small labor requirements, Verlo provides a unique niche in the franchise marketplace. Recently, Furniture/Today noted that smaller manufacturers and retailers demonstrated a higher percentage of sales in 2003, further signifying that sleep specialty products are resonating with consumers. The publication also ranked Verlo in the top ten of all single-brand furniture retailers in the country, noting Verlo as "shining stars in terms of sales and growth."Verlo Mattress Factory Stores continues to rapidly gain market share. According to the Company's 2003 Earnings Claim, the average Verlo franchise organization generated an EBITDA (Earning Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization) of just over 9%. Also according to the Company's Uniform Franchise Offering Circular, 26% of the franchise organizations reported EBITDA of 9.94%. The company average for Verlo Mattress Factory Stores Franchisee in 2003 was reported at $149,886.00 EBITDA. "We are very excited about our push to become a national franchise concept" stated Dave R. Young, President of Verlo Mattress Factory Stores LLC. "We are thrilled with our recent successes both in the retail arena and the new franchise growth, 2004 has already broken our previous growth and development expansion records.""We are beginning to reach multi-concept/multi-unit operators looking for non-competitive retail brands that have simple, low labor operating systems. Our business model that starts with a factory/showroom location supplying manufactured products to showroom only locations allows for quick market penetration," adds Bruce Major, Franchise Development Manager at Verlo Mattress Factory Stores LLC.Since 1958, Verlo has been handcrafting mattress sets specific to each individual's need just days prior to being delivered. Since each mattress set is hand-made at the factory location, Verlo is able to cut out the middleman and sell high-quality products and a very competitive price. All products at Verlo are guaranteed--another unique feature other mattress retailers do not offer. Each mattress set at Verlo comes with a 60-Day Comfort Guarantee, which states that if a customer is not satisfied with their mattress, Verlo will adjust the comfort level of the mattress free of charge. "Consumers today lead extremely busy lifestyles. If you sleep on a better mattress, you will sleep better, giving you the energy needed to accomplish the things that are important to you during the day," says Young. "Verlo's was founded on the philosophy of delivering the highest quality products at the lowest cost directly to consumers," Young adds. The cost of entry into the franchise system is extremely low compared with other similar return/investment franchise opportunities. Initial costs to set up a retail/assembly location are just under $200,000. Franchisees are also given the opportunity to populate a marketplace with additional retail/showroom locations, using the initial retail/assembly location to supply the finished product. "Our model is extremely efficient. Retail/assembly location footprints typically run between 7,000 and 10,000 square feet, employing six to ten employees. Retail/showroom locations typically are 2,500 to 3,000 square feet, with an average of just 1.5 employees," according to Major. "When potential franchisees look at our business model and start to compare our cost model and affordable repeatability within the marketplace, plus review the low labor issue, it becomes a very desirable investment opportunity," adds Major. As a technology-forward company, Verlo's online portal, MyVerlo.com, is the company's main communication vehicle. All employees are provided access to a wide variety of information?from sales tracking to continuing education to online forums to sharing ideas. Since this system is web-based, franchise owners can access the information whenever and wherever internet access is available. This allows franchise owners to remain focused on growing their business.Owners also participate in a comprehensive training program, with ongoing support provided by the Company's home office staff. Starting by working with its owners on site selection, Verlo provides owners with a market overview, real-estate evaluation, demographic study and media analysis. Once a location is established, ongoing training in sales management, operations and technology support is provided. Today, Verlo has 35 franchise owners, averaging 10+ years in the business. The Company is seeking to expand throughout the nation, and has put in place very strong review criteria and development programs. "I have never seen anything with the same business model as Verlo. It is highly successful and can be applied in both large multiple units, and small single facility markets," says Major.
1. Latex mattresses are a natural, biodegradable renewable resource:Beginning on plantations in Malaysia and Indonesia, latex is sap milked from rubber trees in a manner not unlike collecting maple syrup. Local workers harvest the liquid latex and prepare it to be processed. The liquid latex is then shipped in drums to locations in Europe and the United States where it is manufactured into mattress cores and toppers, as well as pillows. Unlike Talalay processed latex foams, natural latex has no added petroleum or other chemical additives making it a truly all natural material. Being a 100% renewable resource, as well as biodegradable, natural latex does not have the taxing effect on the environment as other conventional bedding material. 2. In bedding, natural latex provides support where it is needed most by contouring to the body's natural nuances: It relieves pressure points, particularly at the shoulders and hips, and it allows for better circulation with less tossing and turning. The result is a deeper, more restful slumber. 3. Natural latex is remarkably conducive to situations that require custom mattresses:Available in a wide range of firmness levels, it is simple to build a mattress that caters to an individual's needs: his and her sided beds, toppers, and more. Because of the wide variety of firmness variations available, natural latex can help ensure you feel as comfortable as possible when it matters most. Integrating an open cell structure with a pin core design allows for maximum breathability essential for removing excess heat and moisture that can prevent a good night's sleep.4. For those who struggle with allergies natural latex provides a safe haven as it is naturally hypoallergenic, and anti-microbial:This means that molds, mildew, and dust mites that may help trigger allergies will not be waiting for you in bed, where they can be the most frustrating.5. A naturally resilient and durable material, natural latex will supply consistent performance for 20 years or more. 6. The Advantages of Latex mattresses have been tried, tested and proven in Europe for decades:Unlike the plethora of new age sleep systems available today, latex mattresses have been tried and tested in Europe for over twenty years. Their ability to withstand the test of time as well as provide an all-natural sleep surface that conforms to the contours of the body is finally beginning to catch hold in the United States.7. Other new age sleep systems cannot offer the same qualities as natural latex:Viscoelastic (memory) foam offers good support and relieves pressure points, but comes up short in other areas. It is a chemical product that is not biodegradable and as such it is not environmentally friendly. It doesn't breathe like natural latex, which translates to a more stuffy and sticky sleeping environment. Memory foam easily retains moisture and is an environment prone to dust mites and molds, leaving allergy sufferers sniffing and congested during what should be the most restful time of the day. Being far less resilient than natural latex, viscoelastic foam has a lifespan of only about 10 years, meaning it will need to be replaced twice as often:8. Air beds, such as sleep number beds, offer much less support and pressure point relief than natural latex:They are non-breathable bladders full of air so they offer no way to keep moisture and heat from building up during the night. The only advantage of this type of mattress is its adjustability, which is only an advantage to those who enjoy varying firmnesses.9. Innerspring mattresses seem a thing of the past when compared to natural latex - they don't provide nearly the amount of support and customization opportunities:Frequent tossing and turning is the result of pressure points caused by a rigid spring system. The batting material in the cover cultivates any amount of dust mites, molds, and fungi giving them free range to reek havoc on allergies. Motion is easily transferred through the mattress decreasing the quality of sleep for couples. It is clear why the standard is changing.10. The independent cell construction of natural latex is not prone to transfer movement allowing two people to comfortably share the same bed without disrupting each other with every motion.Natural latex provides excellent support and effectively relieves pressure points. Couples can sleep soundly together without disruption. It is a natural product and is environmentally sound. Designed to be breathable it is effective in keeping heat and moisture build up to a minimum for more comfortable sleep. Finally, it is hypoallergenic and antimicrobial to keep allergy sufferers well rested. It is easy to see why natural latex is far and away the best natural sleeping surface available..

The secret to an air beds high comfort factor is its ability to spread the bodies weight and contact with the mattress in a more even fashion. Traditional mattress designs are more rigid and can force certain points of the body in contact with the mattress to absorb the entire weight of the body, creating concentrated pressure points that are uncomfortable and often out of natural alignment. Air beds have the ability to mold and shape to the contour of a sleeping body and were originally designed for hospitals and medical environments where higher levels of back support and reduced pressure points on the body were needed. Now this technology can be invited into your own bedroom to create a more comfortable sleeping environment. An air bed is basically a mattress that contains air bladders instead of hard steel springs. Air beds can often also be adjusted to suit the particular support needs of partners that share a bed, as each side usually has individual air bladder controls that can be adjusted. The adjustable dual air support chambers can provide just the right amount of back support and firmness on one side of a bed without disturbing the other side. Sleeping on an air bed can also provide better spinal alignment through the night, giving you a very comfortable and restful sleep. Several air beds are endorsed by the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations as good for people with back backs and back support problems. In addition, air beds can help people with allergies by reducing the available nesting ground for dust mites. The traditional coil mattress is usually the largest breeding and nesting ground of dust mites in a household and can contain as many as 5 million dust mites feeding on skin particles that have filtered into the inner mattress core. With an air bed mattress system you do not have this problem, which can help improve your breathing while asleep. If you'd like to learn more benefits of air beds and what to watch out for, visit: http://www.loft-beds-bunk-beds.com/air-beds.htm.

(NC)-Just about everyone has heard that sleep is important to health and well-being, but did you know just how important it really is? The fact is, the human body can survive without food and water longer than it can without adequate sleep. Assess your own sleep needs and test your Sleep IQ with the quiz below.1. Do you know the cause of your stuffy nose, puffy eyes, and sneezing when you wake up in the morning?	nothing, it's normal	the onset of a cold	my bedding Answer: cIt's often dust mites, mold, and mildew lurking in your bedding that cause these allergic reactions. Dust mites, mold, and mildew thrive in the damp and moist environment of your feather and down pillows and bedding. These fills trap moisture and create a clammy atmosphere that allergens love. Wool, however, is hypo-allergenic and absorbs moisture then releases it quickly into the environment keeping you and your bedding dry - all night long. Wool's remarkable ability to absorb moisture is important as the average person loses up to a pint of moisture a night while they sleep.2. Do you know why your joints are achy and stiff in the morning?	not enough sleep	excessive tossing and turning	all of the aboveAnswer: b Excessive tossing and turning is often the cause of aches and joint pain. According to an Australian study, the average person tosses and turns 45 to 50 times per night. This disrupts sleep and causes joint pain. The study also showed that participants who slept on a wool mattress pad reduced their tossing and turning by more than 50 percent. Participants also had a lower, steadier heart rate. A wool mattress pad cushions the body's pressure points like shoulders, hips, and ankles making it the ideal choice for a restful night's sleep. Natura World, www.naturaworld.com, North America's largest manufacturer of wool bedding, produces mattress pads filled with pure wool encased in 100% unbleached cotton, designed to give you a healthier night's sleep.3. Is it hot in here, or is it me?

(NC)-Just about everyone has heard that sleep is important to health and well-being, but did you know just how important it really is? The fact is, the human body can survive without food and water longer than it can without adequate sleep. Assess your own sleep needs and test your Sleep IQ with the quiz below.1. Do you know the cause of your stuffy nose, puffy eyes, and sneezing when you wake up in the morning?

nothing, it's normal
the onset of a cold
my bedding
Answer: cIt's often dust mites, mold, and mildew lurking in your bedding that cause these allergic reactions.

Do you know why your joints are achy and stiff in the morning?

not enough sleep
excessive tossing and turning
all of the above
Answer: b Excessive tossing and turning is often the cause of aches and joint pain.

What is the solution?

sleeping in different beds
getting different covers for each of us
a wool duvet
Answer: cThe sleep scenario that couples often report is the "too hot too cold syndrome" with one partner curling up to keep warm and the other partner kicking off the covers to cool down.

A Natura wool filled duvet is the perfect solution.
